Fresh caught Louisiana Gulf shrimp at the Market! Now how cool is that? Meet our new Market seafood vendor, Jeff Schmidtke. Jeff is a coin dealer in Memphis Sunday through Wednesday, but he left his heart in his hometown of New Orleans. At the close of his Wednesday business day, Jeff and his partner get their fishing boots on for the long drive to New Orleans. They trawl all Thursday and Friday along with Jeff's uncle, a licensed Louisiana shrimper, for shrimp and other miscellaneous fish. The shrimp & fish is packaged on their late Friday night return to the New Orleans dock. They then make an overnight drive back to Memphis, arriving about the time of Market opening to bring us the freshest, most succulent Gulf shrimp. Last week, they also had redfish and speckled trout, among other fish. Meet Jeff and buy some fresh shrimp and fish at the next Saturday market.
