As many of you may have seen through local media outlets, Central Station is being redeveloped to include a boutique hotel, a movie theater on our north side and apartments on our south side. This will also include further development of transit areas on the South Main side of the train station, bringing even more shoppers to the area!
Memphis Farmers Market’s Board of Directors believes this is a very exciting growth opportunity for our neighborhood and our market. The success of our vendors’ businesses and our shoppers’ experiences has always been and will continue to be our core mission. A more densely populated downtown area is a wonderful opportunity to share the market with even more shoppers.
Several media reports have included renderings of our pavilions in different configurations; however, there are no plans at this time to alter our pavilions.
We have worked with and continue to consult with the Central Station development team and community supporters to research possible reconfiguration ideas and site improvements for our overall strategic growth in the future, but again, there are neither plans nor funds to make any changes at this time.
The current plan is to have our pavilions and marketplace remain in place and work in tandem with the new development. The apartments to our south are currently under construction, and the movie theater to our north will most likely begin construction in early March. Nothing will change with our pavilions, and we will open, as scheduled, on April 2nd at 7:00 a.m.
We will keep you updated if there are any changes in plans in the future.
We look forward to being a part of this neighborhood revitalization.
Opening day is set for April 2, 2016. See you then!!
